Looking forward to Ashley Behn's Wedding Preview on April 11th at the MCM Elegante. This one will be bigger than the last one, and it's sure to be a great show. Beaumont Catering Company - Valentine Window

Will You Marry Me?

I wonder how many will pop the question this year on Valentine's Day? I enjoyed imagining and creating this month's window display for Beaumont Catering Company on Boston Avenue in Nederland. Holly and Christi at Beaumont Catering can cater a romantic dinner for two.

I imagine the stage is set:
  • Lovely meal, check;
  • Roses, check;
  • Wine, check;
  • Candy, check;
  • Card, check;
  • Jumbo "Will You Marry Me" sign, check;
  • Diamonds, check!

I imagine the guy has butterflies waiting for his girl to arrive at their romantic Valentine's dinner. Is she expecting the proposal, hoping for it, or totally taken by surprise?

Yes, I love what I do.

Winter Forest

I'm really loving this newest decor theme, and I hope you do too. I've decided to call it "Winter Forest." It features bronze and rich dark wood accented with shades of green and white, coffee beans, grapes, limes and green apples. This theme could be accented with another color, and will go perfectly with David's Bridal "olivine" dresses.

Beaumont Catering Company Christmas Windows 2009

Working today on the traditional Christmas decorations for one of Beaumont Catering Company's windows. Looking forward to going back tomorrow and finishing up the other side with some glitzy blue and silver party decorations suitable for a New Year's Eve party. Hoping you will drive by after dark to see how it looks. During the daytime the glare is so bad! 1204 Boston Avenue in Nederland. Stop and take in the photo slideshow of Beaumont Catering's delicious offerings. Boston Avenue is such a nice street with a quite a bit of foot traffic any time of the day.

Facebook . . .

11/9/09 - Trying to get with the "Facebook" program today! I've been mainly on the fringes of Facebook til now but just yesterday created a B & B Solutions page there. Now I'm looking for fans :o) . . . Thanks to anyone who has or who will become a fan of B & B Solutions.

This being in business is a challenge . . . I find myself uncomfortable with all of the selling that must be done to stay in business. I can do it, but I'd rather not! The fact is that the phone will not ring if you don't put yourself out there. And even then it may not ring . . . but I'm happily plugging along trying to offer what people and businesses might like to have . . .

11/19/09 - Update: I've been at it about a week and now have 40 fans. Yippee! Had a scare this morning though when all of my posts disappeared . . . . but it has thankfully all come back tonight.

Business / Organizational Tips

Everyone seemed to enjoy tonight's Business / Organizational Tips training presented by B & B Solutions, sponsored by SoutheastTexasWeddings.com, and held at Beaumont Catering Company on Boston Avenue in Nederland. We had twelve in attendance, counting myself and Kyle (the other "B").

This meeting focused on Sole Proprietors in the early stages of setting up a business. A review of the many different steps involving in running your own business led to some good discussion and sharing of ideas.

My Take-Away from tonight's meeting: Everyone is in need of improved organization. There just aren't enough hours in the day. Managing our task list is probably our greatest challenge.

My Advice: Attack your task list from all sides with every tool you've got. Use your Planner, Blackberry, Windows Mail or Outlook task management features. Create tasks for recurring items. Put a due date on every item. Don't delete any item until it's done or delegated. Only write down the items you can realistically complete and check off today. Everything else gets written on a future planner page or moved forward at the end of the day.

Nice article on BeaumontBuzz.com thanks to Ashley Behn . . .

New Decor Theme - What to Call it?

Here's a peek . . . Shades of green and shades of white mixed with fragrant coffee beans, fresh limes, grapes, and green apples . . . Spider mums, white hydrangeas, twigs, and calla lilies . . .Bronze lanterns, urns, and candlesticks . . . All atop chocolate pintuck table toppers.

Hmmm, this new table decor will definitely be featured at the April Wedding Preview. I can tell it will be popular with the brides. This bride's attendants will be wearing green. The overall feeling is warm, soft and elegant.

Stay tuned . . . I'll let you know what I decide to call it.

A Grandma's Life etc.

Saturday, November 28

Grandaddy and Caroline rockin' at Great Aunt Kristen's on Friday afternoon. Doesn't get any better than this.

Monday, November 16

Well, I talked to my sweet Caroline via Skype earlier today. What a hoot! I'm not able to capture the video, but I can take snapshots . . . the quality is not that great, but you get the idea. She knows she's talking to Grandma & Grandaddy when she looks at the computer. I even heard her call me something like "gammaw" today, really!

Sunday, November 8

Got home Saturday from our camping at Lake Livingston State Park, one of our favorites. The weather was just right for keeping a fire going. We took a bike ride and went for a nice walk around the lake. We couldn't have asked for better weather or a more peaceful trip, that is until we were surrounded on all sides by cub scouts on Friday night! These kids were so excited. We were surprised and relieved when they actually quieted down at 10 p.m. All in all, it was a great trip.

We were looking forward to getting home and "Skyping" Caroline last night. What a treat--she never disappoints. I'm going to try to record one of our "conversations" to share. She's a real hoot and knows that she is talking with Grandma and Grandaddy when the video boots up.

Monday, November 2

Oh my, I must say Caroline was precious as a "good witch" on Halloween. She was fascinated with the wand. Notice the second picture was an action shot . . . she was really working it.

Friday, October 30

Sweet Caroline was so happy to see her friends today when I dropped her off at her babysitter's house. What an absolute doll. I spent all week with her, and I can't wait to see her tomorrow.

Thursday, October 29

What a privilege to be able to spend some time with my Little Ladybug Caroline in Houston this week. Unfortunately, the reason is her being sick with a fever and then breaking out in a rash--roseola. She can't go to her babysitter Melodee's just yet. We've enjoyed some good play time in between naps. She is such a joy and has quite a personality at 15 mos. Her Mom is making a pink/black witch's tutu for Halloween. She will be adorable. I hope they feel like making the trip to Port Neches on Saturday, because that will be a Halloween treat for a lot of Grands and Greats in the Mid-County area.

Business Solutions

We are excited to have been asked to present a Business / Organizational Workshop to the some of the vendors who are members of Ashley Behn's SoutheastTexasWeddings.com. Having been in business just over two years, we have only recently completed some of the steps that we will share at the November 3rd workshop. If you are interested in attending, contact Ashley Behn through SoutheastTexasWeddings.com.

WHAT QUALIFIES US?

Before retiring, Kyle worked for 26 years as an accountant for Chevron Phillips, retiring in 2007 as Accounting Supervisor for the Port Arthur Plant. Since then he has become semi-retired and works part-time at Nederland's Sunoco Logistics. For the last 2 years he has also been a Tax Specialist for H&R Block. I worked for 12 years in the chemicals industry (9 years for Chevron-Phillips in Orange, Texas; and then 2 years for GE Betz in Orange, Texas). Over the years I developed some database development skills (particularly Excel and Access) and some pretty good document management skills.

BUSINESS DOCS DVD - $30.00

Always working to offer something new, we have compiled two "Business Docs DVD's" that includes links to some of the websites where you can find information about setting up a new business (currently includes Jefferson, Orange, and Hardin county links plus State of Texas and IRS links). One is specifically for wedding vendors, and the other is for any small business. The DVD's contain ready-to-use documents for tracking cash flow, product cost, mileage, and clients; plus some forms to help small businesses keep accurate accounting records.

ACCOUNTING RECORDS NOTEBOOK KIT - $15.00

You can purchase your own binder . . . Our Accounting Records Notebook Kit is ready to go with dividers for keeping all of your accounting documentation neatly in one place. Each divider contains Instructions and Tips.

  • Bank Statements & Reconcilation

  • State Reports & Payments

  • Federal Reports & Payments

  • Documents & Profit/Loss Reports

  • Cover and Spine Inserts

Purchase either the Business Docs DVD or the Accounting Records Notebook Kit, and receive one year of free access to B&B Solutions' "Customers Only" web pages. We will use these pages to post updated links and new or improved documents for your use.

COMPUTER TRAINING

(2-hr minimum) - $30 per hour for one person / $20 per person per hour for 2+ persons

We offer computer training on applications installed on your business or personal computer; at your location; or at our location if you have a laptop and prefer an offsite training. New - Video Ads

I love it when business opportunities develop, especially when my customers are happy and excited about the product or services that they get. Videos are a wonderful way to give brides and potential customers a glimpse of your business and your specialties.

If you have a business or a friend who could use such a tool for advertising with clients, please let me know. A video can be used in so many different circumstances--on the web, at a trade or bridal show, or one-on-one with a client. Visual images are important in helping customers to begin to know what it is they really want.

Wedding Preview - What a Nice Day

Cheers! and Bravo! to Ashley Behn and SoutheastTexasWeddings.com. I have done previous bridal shows, but I have to say that none can compare to the feel of today's event. It was well-planned and then well-attended. I hope that all of the brides who took our flyers and some of the complimentary photos of our Silk Settings will check out our website and this blog!

Honestly I'm pooped and have my feet up. It took a while to get everything packed up. I'll spend tomorrow trying to put things away! But it was well worth it. I enjoyed meeting every one of you today. I hope you'll give me a call very soon so that we can talk about your big day.

We pride ourselves in treating our clients like family. Your photos and your dreams of your wedding day are important to you and therefore important to us! With B & B Solutions, you will know exactly what you are getting before your big day, whether it be a great Video Keepsake DVD Slideshow or some of our unique and custom Silk Settings centerpieces. You will be a satisfied customer, because we do not stop working until everything is exactly the way you want it.

Wedding Preview Almost Here!

I am really looking forward to Sunday's Wedding Preview at the Elegante. I've been crazy busy, but I'm so excited about the opportunity to show so many of my Silk Settings centerpieces and showcase some great Video Keepsake DVD Slideshows on my Perfect Presentations audio-visual equipment.

You will really see some elegant table decorations. Cathi Thompson of The Linen House is providing most of the linens for the event. All of B & B Solutions' tables will be decked out with beautiful tablecloths. What a great, cooperative event, not unlike most real weddings!

Be sure to check out the "Wedding Chat" area that will be centered by B & B Solutions' Custom Unity Banner and Unity Candle Centerpiece Grouping. Look for the Unity Candle and a few chairs that will be dressed in The Linen House ivory satin chair covers and accented with B & B Solutions' assortment of posies.

Take a close look at the Unity Banner, and consider placing an order for your very own. This custom banner is available in ivory or white satin and features a large monogram and your wedding date, creating a lifelong keepsake to remind you of your unity candle or sand ceremony.

B & B Solutions can provide, set up and remove the column, centerpiece grouping, and candles. You keep the banner. Order forms will be available for the Unity Banner and coordinating Ring Bearer Pillow.

Kyle (the other "B") and my daughter Betsy (another "B") will be on hand to help direct couples to all of B & B's options displayed at the Wedding Preview. We are ready to spend some time with you and answer all of your questions. We will have our calendar ready and are excited to book Your Big Day or to schedule a one-on-one, free consultation.

Windows ~ Videos ~ Wedding Shows

Hello Friends, I've been pretty busy with a few different projects here lately! First I put together a Summer Fun video for Around the Clock Child Development Center.
Those kids were doing something all summer long! I am so impressed with the efforts of Victoria Fitzgerald at Around the Clock. What a happy bunch of kiddos.
~
Beaumont Catering Company again asked me to decorate for their tasting. Brides who have already booked with them for their catering get to taste all of their delicious specialties. It's a great opportunity for me to meet their brides one-on-one, show off my Silk Settings, and show some sample videos. Lacie Grant (Essence Photography by Lacie Grant) took some great pictures of their food and my decorations.
~
Today I changed out both of the windows for Beaumont Catering Company on Boston Ave. in Nederland. This has been a really fun project for me, and I'm hoping to connect with some other businesses whose storefront windows could use a facelift. On one side I used the "Under the Sea" theme. I love the "tiffany" blue with the seashells. This reminds me of the Quinceanera Video Keepsake DVD I created for Alexandra. Her 15th birthday party (planned by Consultant Marissa Sellers of Glass Slipper Events) was elegantly decorated in an "Under the Sea" theme.
~
In the other Beaumont Catering window I decorated with a "Back to School" theme. Once again I showcased some of my Mom's handiwork with three of her china dolls. "Big Sis Betsy" is doing her homework and having a snack with the twins, "Caroline" and "David." At least that's the story we made up to go with the scene created. The Betsy doll was made to look like my daughter Betsy, who was always in "dog ears." The Caroline doll just reminds me of my Sweet Caroline right now. The David doll is wearing one of my great-nephew David's little outfits. Both of these dolls are just beautiful. They feel just like a real baby when you hold them.
~
I'm getting ready for the Wedding Preview which is just around the corner. Brides need to get their tickets early and save a few dollars! Grooms get in free, how about that?

Video Keepsakes ~ Silk Settings ~ Perfect Presentations

video

Wedding Preview - September 20

I have been a fan of Ashley Behn's southeasttexasweddings.com for several months now. It's a great place for brides to find vendors in Southeast Texas. Ashley's planning for the Wedding Preview at the MCM Elegante on September 20th.

This is not your typical bridal show! B & B Solutions will be providing decorations for a large portion of the room. Brides will be able to get a real feel for the elegance of our Silk Settings centerpieces as they are in a real reception. Not only that, we will be able to set up our audio/visual equipment as in a real reception setting and show some of our favorite sample Reception Videos.

More About Family - Those Reeder NSSO Games

Well, I'm going to try not to make this too long, but this is part of who I am and should be on my blog. You know those siblings of mine that I love . . . well, we and our parents and all our kids really enjoy one another's company. Oh, and we REALLY enjoy competition events.

What is NSSO? It's the "Not So Special Olympic" games that our family has participated in every Christmas since 1996. It is the subject of one of my favorite Video Keepsake DVD's, the "10th Annual Reeder NSSO" DVD featuring highlights from the many years of:
  • Punt, Pass & Kick Competition
  • Basketball
  • Sharp Shooting

This DVD has it all--great action shots, outstanding form, the agony of defeat, and the thrill of victory! This ain't your ordinary family playing games. There's a point scoring system, a stat book, men's winners, women's winners, trophies, certificates, opening and closing ceremonies, and bragging rights.

Oh, and don't let me forget to mention the yearly Christmas Balderdash competition and the coveted "Reeder Cup."

Family - How it All Started . . .

Our families are everything to us . . . I know most people feel that way. We are very blessed. The Reeders got together for a Family Reunion on the Frio in July 2009.

Back in 1992 our Dad retired . . . I happen to be right in the middle of seven kids . . . and a couple of my sisters put together a wonderful slideshow for his Retirement Party. This was long before everyone had PC's on every desk, so it was an actual "slide" show. My sister had two slide projectors that were programmed to advance at just the right points of the music. The audio included narrated passages by every one of us kids. The outcome was wonderful and enjoyed by everyone; but what we have to show for it is a grainy VHS tape with poor audio--a video of the slideshow.

A few years down the road in 2002 for my inlaws' 50th anniversary I created a "much advanced" slideshow in PowerPoint. Lots of scanning and many hours went into it. I put the audio track together on a cassette tape--30 different pieces of music. I carried my PowerPoint file and my cassette tape to a business in Beaumont, and they put the two together on a VHS tape. It was a wonderful surprise for the Bowsers.

Well by then I was hooked. I just really LOVE to do this kind of thing. When we got a new computer in 2005 I made sure I got the software and hardware that was needed for a lot of video, graphics and audio editing. I am so happy to have been able to make a little business out of something I enjoy so much.

Video Keepsake Planner

The Video Keepsake Planner has everything you need to get your DVD organized. We provide pocket dividers for collection of hard copy photos, a 2GB flash drive for collection of digital photos, and suggestions for music and transitions.
Our Bride & Groom Keepsake videos are your affordable alternative to videography. We can put your weddings photos with your wedding music to create a keepsake to be treasured for years to come.

Video Keepsake Tote Bag

I enjoy putting together the tote bags that are part of B &B Solutions' Video Keepsake package. My Mom, Rosalie, provides the expert embroidery and then I sew them up in her awesome sewing room. It gives us an excuse to spend some good time together. Dad will come in every so often to see what we're up to, and old Junior (their Schnauzer) is usually under foot.
The tote bag holds the Video Keepsake Planner and is designed to help you keep your project organized until you turn all your pictures back over to B & B.

Multi-Package Discount Really Helps

Video Keepsakes ~ Perfect Presentations ~ Silk Settings

B & B Solutions offers a variety of services. When you order two (2) B & B Packages, you get a 5% discount off your entire order. This especially makes booking a Perfect Presentation of your Video Keepsake DVD very affordable. You cannot rent the equipment yourself for what it will cost you to have us attend your event, set up and show the DVD, and take down the equipment. It's certainly something for you to consider.

Legends of the Fall Wedding Reception

Ever since our daughter's Fall wedding in 2004 I have loved a reception donned in fall colors. I was ecstatic when I was asked to decorate for a Fall 2008 wedding with our Legends of the Fall decor theme. Our fall topiary with its dark red, orange and yellow roses makes such a beautiful statement. I am excited to be planning to decorate for the Wedding Preview with some of my favorite centerpieces from the Legends of the Fall decor theme.

Brown Center

The Brown Center in Orange, Texas, is a lovely venue for weddings, no matter what time of year. I had the pleasure of decorating for a wedding in 2008. The attendants wore black and carried red rose bouquets. Our Black Cherry Silk Settings were perfect. I provided black wrought iron candlesticks accented with red roses and cascading red sheer ribbons. The head table featured tall red rose topiaries and an arched candelabra with red roses. All tables were adorned with dark red silk scarves. The aisle was especially lovely with tulle aisle markers that featured pearl hangers and red rose posies with cascading sheer red ribbons.

Neches Room Wedding Reception

I provided last-minute decorations for a wedding at the Neches Room on Crockett Street in Beaumont, Texas. This bride's colors were champagne and black. She brought their two teenage sons over to help her pick out the centerpieces. I was so impressed! The Neches Room is such a beautiful venue for wedding receptions. Our crystal centerpieces, champagne roses, and ivory candles were elegant and a perfect complement to the room.

Audio/Visual Perfect Presentations

Here's another avenue of the business that I didn't plan for originally. Having done several wedding reception videos last fall and having sent the brides elsewhere to get presentation equipment, I decided to go ahead and make the investment in a projector, screen, DVD player and speakers.

B & B Solutions does not offer to rent the equipment, but instead we attend the event and make sure that everything goes smoothly in the presentation. It's really fun to get to see a Video Keepsake DVD enjoyed by a bride and her friends and family first-hand.

We can do the same for corporate clients too, or for clubs, or family gatherings. We had a Shrek movie marathon at our Reeder Family Reunion at the Frio Country Resort. This was displayed on a large area about 6'x10' in diameter, and the picture was awesome.

Custom Window Displays

It's amazing how your small business can evolve in a really interesting way and take you in directions you never knew you would go. That's what I love about it. Earlier this year I had an opportunity to try my skills at creating custom window displays for the Beaumont Catering Company on Boston Avenue in Nederland. I love dreaming up a design and making it come to life. I was so appreciative of Holly and Christi for trusting me to pull this off. It
seems my Silk Settings business has expanded to include Custom Window Displays! This is a great option for a non-retail storefront that needs to make a good impression.

Jennifer & Brian's Wedding

This was a huge event for B & B Solutions. We provided the Video Keepsake DVD, aisle decor, unity candle, and centerpieces for a huge wedding reception. The outcome was great though, because the bride and her Mom were both pleased. That's all that matters.

Attendants' dresses were olivine green. Our centerpieces were crystal and glass accented with soft yellow scarves and posies of yellow roses and daisies. The bride's table featured a large crystal vase filled with fresh sliced lemons and a large arrangement with yellow roses, daisies, and calla lilies. Two tall glass footed vases were filled with fresh sliced limes and topped with similar arrangements.

Daycare Videos

Well I'm busy trying to book as many 2009-2010 Daycare Videos as I can. I had the most fun putting together end-of-schoolyear videos for several daycares in May. The kids' parents submit infant, toddler, and current pictures. Plus the daycares take pictures all year long to include in the video. It's a great keepsake for the kids and had been known to make teachers cry.

2009 So Far

Wow, it has actually been a busy 2009 for B&B Solutions! I'm going to give this blogging a try. It will probably be pretty boring, but here goes!
